INTRODUCTION
I usually tend to avoid adding community made mods/AddOns to games, mostly because I like to experience the game as the developer intended it but there usually are some exceptions to that. Below are 6 mods that I consider useful to World of Warcraft that can be quite helpful without changing altering stuff too much or overloading your screen or your RAM memory.
1. DETAILS! Damage Meter
The small window above the chat. Of course there can be more but it's better to keep it simple! |
As the name says it's a Damage Meter which is very helpful to measure your damage done, especially in a raid or dungeon, and/or see how others perform. Of course it has plenty of features that you can discover or read about on their page but if you like to keep it simple, pick it to measure damage, per run/boss/quest/mob. Also the UI can look close to standard wow UI so it won't seem too out of place!
2. GatherMate2
look at all those ore nodes ! |
So you like collecting ores, herbs, fishing pools and what not? Then you should totally pick GatherMate2, every resource you collect it will remember it's place and mark it on the map so when you go for another round gathering, let's say you usually gather ore to craft your shiny new weapon or earn a bit of gold on the auction house to buy that special mount that you've been looking at for a while but can't afford then GatherMate2 will remember the location of the node you mined and display it on your map so when you come back later you know where ore might be. I'd say it's must have and it's not too intrusive and quite flexible.
3. Pawn
Sometimes measuring whether the shiny new weapon is good for your build or you should rather keep the old one can be quite a chore, especially when you want to know if +50 haste or 50 mastery is better for you. It either let's it's own Mr.Robot advice you or you can customize the stat weights to better represent your character build. Then you will easily know which item is better for the slot!
Pawn can help you with telling you how much of an upgrade the item is. And Trade Skill Master with the value you can get on it! |
4. Trade Skill Master 4
Sometimes searching on the auction house to make sure you sell your item at the right price can take a few clicks or a few alt tabs combined with browsing. Trade Skill Master helped me get rid of this nuisance. by installing the addon and the accompanying program, I can select the servers from which TSM 4 will get it's data and help me see a detailed price evaluation of the item i'm hovering my mouse over. from the disenchantment value to the minimal buyout price, you can get all the details needed. Yes it will also at first change the U for the auction house which makes it easier to manage your sales, change the post and crafting UIs for better readability but if you love to see the classic UI. there is a not so small button on each of those that lets you switch back. I honestly use it for the occasional Auction House sales to make that extra little gold.
5. World Quest Tracker
Oh boy! I can more easily see those pesky annoying world quests! |

6. Deadly Boss Mods
Despite the name it doesn't make the bosses harder(nor that it could in any case). This AddOn is very useful when running dungeons or raids to alert you when you have to dodge a boss/npc skill, when to interrupt etc. and it's quite in your face about it so you can make sure you can avoid that silly move that will end up in a wipe and make your whole group love you less. While it can be configured in all kinds of ways, you mostly want to set it up to help you make raiding and dungeoneering easier!
So those are the 6 AddOns I tend to use, they are quite light on the system, are quite beneficial for an average wow player and they don't alter the experience too much! Hope you enjoy using them as much as I do!
